Gpu Computing for Meshfree Particle Method
نویسندگان
چکیده
Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), originally developed for computer games, now provide computational power for scientific applications. A study on the comparison of computational speed-up and efficiency of a GPU with a CPU for the Finite Pointset Method (FPM), which is a numerical tool in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is presented. As FPM is based on the point cloud, it is so expensive when the number of particles are in millions. We have demonstrated the application of the FPM using a single-GPU (Nvidia Tesla M2050) and Intel CPU (Dual Xeon). Importance of the GPU is realized by the FPM since GPU yields a computational speed-up of 70× for the Poisson equation with various boundary conditions.

Optimization strategies for parallel CPU and GPU implementations of a meshfree particle method
Much of the current focus in high performance computing (HPC) for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) deals with grid based methods. However, parallel implementations for new meshfree particle methods such as Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) are less studied. In this work, we present optimizations for both central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU) of a SPH method. The...
متن کاملSimulating Dam - Break Flooding with Floating Objects through Intricate City Layouts Using GPU - based SPH Method
For the fast transient dam break flooding with floating bodies presented through intricate city layouts, the traditional grid-based method based on solving two dimensional (2D) Shallow Water Equations or three dimensional (3D) Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations have difficulty in modelling the 3D unsteady flow features and the moving objects in the flow, causing inaccuracies. In this pap...
متن کاملLagrangian Meshfree Particle-based Computational Acoustics for Two- dimensional Sound Propagation and Scattering Problems
Meshfree particle method, which is always regarded as a pure Lagrangian approach, is easily represented complicated domain topologies, moving boundaries, and multiphase media. Solving acoustic problems with the mesfree particle method forms a branch of the acoustic wave modeling field, namely, particle-based computational acoustics (PCA). The aim of this paper is to improve the accuracy of usin...
متن کاملStudy on the Animations of Swaying and Breaking Trees based on a Particle-based Simulation
For real-time rendering of physically-based volumetric deformation, a meshless finite element method (FEM) is proposed and implemented on the new-generation Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). A tightly coupled deformation and rendering pipeline is defined for seamless modeling and rendering: First, the meshless FEM model exploits the vertex shader stage and the transform feedback mechanism of the ...
متن کاملVerification and Validation of Common Derivative Terms Approximation in Meshfree Numerical Scheme
In order to improve the approximation of spatial derivatives without meshes, a set of meshfree numerical schemes for derivative terms is developed, which is compatible with the coordinates of Cartesian, cylindrical, and spherical. Based on the comparisons between numerical and theoretical solutions, errors and convergences are assessed by a posteriori method, which shows that the approximations...
